How a child should be old if you stop to nurse it?

This is something, over which I was confused lately. My son is six years old, and i him/it still nurses. My neighbor believed, thereß it strange was, but if tried ich\'ve, my son of him/it, that he/it got really badly, to disaccustom, away. What are your thoughts thereover?
